Welcome to Wiebelhusky’s Klee Kai Breeding
Program Goal at
Wiebelhusky's Alaskan Klee Kai:
To produce
puppies of equal or
better temperament and conformation with
each generation that is produced from our lines and to do our best to
help the AKK breed keep moving forward. A very
important
goal of ours is to make sure to find our puppies a loving home above
all else.
Our
Story
We
are Alan & Barb Wiebelhaus; we live near Junction City, Kansas, we
moved from Manhattan, Kansas in 2018. We moved to KS in Jan 2009 from
North Dakota. We moved to North Dakota in July 1999 from
Colorado. Colorado Springs, CO was where we met Eileen and Greg
Gregory and their AKK puppies as they were answering questions and
handing out information about the Alaskan Klee Kai Breed one morning in
1996. I (Barb) just knew I had to get one of these little
huskies, they were so cute and so small. In March 1997 Eileen
called me and said she had one available for me, and that was when we
bought Niki, our first AKK. She was a Black and White double
brown eyed beauty. We were just getting a pet, but were asked if
we would consider holding off spaying her and consider breeding,
because she looked like she would be a nice breeding quality
female. Well we did and now we do. Nikishka grew up to be a
stocky little toy sized female, she may have only been 8 pounds but she
had good bone structure, and that is what started it all, Niki had such
a wonderful character and such great personality, we were taken in by
her charms. We decided it would be great to become breeders to do
what we could to help the breed grow. That was when we knew we
had to find a stud dog for our breeding program and we found
Moses. We bought Moses from the Jim & Billie Henderson and he
grew up to be an awesome male, as a puppy he was so laid back you could
hold him upside down in your hand and rub his belly and he’d fall right
to sleep. He was the friendliest and most outgoing AKK we had
ever known at that time. When his first litter was born he heard
the squeal of the puppies and he just had to peek in and see what he
had done. Niki did not mind Moses looking in on his
puppies. Moses then moved with my family, Dave and Margaret Reed,
in Oregon for their breeding program and we had his son Willow and both
Moses and Willow have produced some very friendly and outgoing puppies
with laid back temperaments. We have heard the question asked if
the temperament of a dog is in the genetics or if it is leaned from the
environment they are raised in, like being held by people from the 1st
day they are born; we feel that both of these play a part in a puppy's
temperament and early start to socialization is key in this breed.
Alan and I consider
ourselves among the many people who care for the future of this breed,
so we decided it was time to get more involved with the breed
clubs. Alan has been a Director and Treasurer on the UAKKA BOD
(Club was dissolved) has been the Treasurer of the Alaskan Klee Kai
National Rescue (AKKNR), and I (Barb) am a past Vice President and past
Treasurer of the Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America (AKKAOA) Inc
as well as a volunteer for the AKKNR.
